What I like most about the skiing in the Alps are
the long descents through all sorts of snow conditions
and weather. You can ski from village to village, starting
up high in perfect powder and ending your day-long
run in another valley on perfect spring snow; and then
sip your favorite drink, hot or cold, at a rustic café
as you wait to catch your train back home.
There are
many possibilities. Have you always wanted to ski hut-to-hut
on the Haute
Route from
Chamonix to Zermatt? Or do you prefer to ski classic off
piste lines such as the Vallee Blanche above
Chamonix, coming home to hotel and restaurant each
evening? Whatever your preferences, you can accomplish
them in the Alps. Day ski
tours are
a great option for those who want a little more exercise
and to be rewarded with rugged mountain views and pristine
powder. Heli
skiing can also bring
you deep into the heart of the Swiss and Italian mountain
ranges. The Chamonix
Adventure Ski Camp with Chris Davenport, Free
Ski Champion, has become an annual event. So if you
want to ski steep lines and learn safe techniques to
do that, check it out.
Haute Routes or “High Level Tours” are best
skied in the spring time, from mid-March to mid-May.
Whereas most other types of skiing can be practiced
as early as mid-December. Choose the ski adventure
that best matches your desires and enjoy the feel of
traversing the Alps!
