About your instructor: Michael Silitch is a
UIAGM guide trained by the American Mountain Guides
Association. He began his guiding career with Colorado
Outward Bound School and later with American Alpine
Institute; he currently owns and operates High Alpine
Mountain Guides and guides exclusively in the European
Alps. Although focusing his last 10 years guiding in
the Alps, he has 20 years of guiding experience.
Michael is an instructor/examiner for the AMGA and sits
on the Technical Committee. He is also a member of both
the Swiss and French Mountain Guides Associations. He
has worked on the rescue teams of Yosemite National
Park and Denali National Park and participated in rescues
on El Cap and at 17,000 ft on Denali. Trained by the
American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education
(AIARE) and level 3 certified, he teaches avalanche
education in Europe and the US. Although trained as
high as Wilderness EMT, he currently holds a Wilderness
First Responder Certification.
Educated at St. John's College, in Santa Fe, New Mexico
and University of Colorado, Boulder, Michael currently
lives in Chamonix, France with his wife and two sons.
